Materials Needed to DIY Jeep Hardtop Hoist Plans
When you build your hoist, you will need some basic materials. You will need two four-foot lengths of two-inch-by-four-inch wood, a four-foot length of one-inch-by-four-inch wood, two four-foot lengths of one-inch-by-six-inch wood, two pairs of pulleys with mounting hardware, two screw eyes, and two lengths of rope. You will also need screws, nails, and glue, as well as a drill, saw, and other basic tools.
Building the Hoist
Once you have all of your materials, you can begin building your hoist. Start by cutting the four-foot length of two-inch-by-four-inch wood into two two-foot lengths. Next, cut the four-foot length of one-inch-by-four-inch wood into two two-foot lengths. Use these pieces to construct two rectangular frames, using the two-inch-by-four-inch pieces as the long sides and the one-inch-by-four-inch pieces as the short sides.
Next, attach the two frames together by nailing the two one-inch-by-four-inch pieces together. Then, cut the two four-foot lengths of one-inch-by-six-inch wood into sixteen one-foot lengths. Nail these pieces around the outside edge of the two rectangular frames, creating a four-sided structure.
Once the structure is built, you can attach the pulleys and screw eyes. Attach the pulleys to the top of the structure, using the pulley mounting hardware. Then, attach the screw eyes to the top of the structure. Finally, attach the two lengths of rope to the two screw eyes.

Once the hoist is built, you can use it to easily remove and store your Jeep hardtop. To use the hoist, attach the two lengths of rope to the hardtop. Then, pull the two lengths of rope until the hardtop is lifted off the Jeep. Finally, use the pulleys to lower the hardtop to the ground.
